Joel Hurt is a Board Eligible Orthopedic Surgeon with specialized traning in sports medicine.

Dr. Hurt grew up in the Austin area and graduated from Westlake High School in 1991. He later attended Baylor University for undergrad and then medical school at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, graduating in the top quarter. he completed his residency in orthopedics at Parkland Hospital and further trained in an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Hurt has a general practice, specializing in the treatment of the shoulder, hip and knee. In the shoulder he is well-trained in "all arthroscopic" procedures as well as "open surgery" and joint replacements. Likewise, his interest in the knee ranges from the most recent advances in ACL surgery to complex multi-ligament reconstructions.

His memberships include the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Texas Orthopedic Association, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

His entire immediate family lives in Austin, including his father Dr. Bruce Hurt, his mother, two sisters and a brother. In his free time he enjoys exercising, going to the lake, and spending time with his family and two Bernese Mountain dogs.
